You are probably reading this because your doctor wants you to understand more about the testing information he/she wants to gather in order to best guide you towards better health.

Welcome to Markers4Health Biomarker Testing!

Blood tests such as cholesterol level or white blood cell counts and urine tests such as urinary analysis are often done when looking for evidence of health disorders or diseases.  But, there are many instances when a person like yourself is looking for steps they can take now to prevent health problems or at least put yourself in the best possible situation to fight existing disease and reduce the chance of future health problems.   Testing nutritional and general health markers, Biomarker Testing, is an affordable way to shed light on your current health status, so you can make meaningful changes to improve and restore your health.

Wouldn't it would be wonderful if we could measure precisely how each of your organs is functioning along with the status of each and every vitamin, mineral, essential fatty acid, and probiotic (healthy bacteria) in the body?  Absolutely.  Unfortunately, the means doesn't exist to measure all of these things at the cellular, storage, and absorption levels.   Even if the technology existed, testing to that degree would be prohibitively expensive.

Since it isn't possible to test everything, your doctor is requesting measurements of certain representative health markers that can be used to identify and improve areas of nutrition and health management.

For example, we can check blood levels of vitamin D and spillover of calcium and vitamin C in your urine.  If your numbers are low, does it mean you should take in more calcium and vitamin C?  Maybe yes, maybe no.  Your doctor knows it's usually not that simple.  Are you low because your diet is deficient?  Are you low because your digestion is impaired?  Is there some condition in your body that causes altered metabolism of nutrients?  What is the likelihood if you are deficient in one mineral, you have desirable levels of every other mineral?

Good questions. There is no one-size-fits-all answer.  So…..we dig deeper.  We check the pH of your urine and saliva.  We test zinc, another highly important mineral, to gain more insight into the overall mineral status of your body.  Do you know that even elite athletes can have an unhealthy state in their bodies caused by overtraining and exceeding internal protective mechanisms?  We will check you for signs your body is damaging itself from within (oxidative damage) so your doctor can steer you towards optimal protection.

Along with Biomarker Testing, you will be asked to complete a Health Appraisal Questionnaire, intended to identify areas of concern regarding your general health.  This will allow your doctor to dig deep and learn a lot by reviewing your answers to many detailed questions.  You've probably heard about "body comp" testing, also known as Bioelectric Impedence Analysis.  This will be included in your testing as an excellent tool to look for signs of fluid retention, toxic overload, and healthy tissue proportions.

There will be a few things you need to do to prepare for your testing session, and some reading beforehand will be helpful.

Thank you for your interest in Biomarker Testing, an economical yet informative way to get a sense of your health.  We applaud your efforts to work with your doctor to be more proactive versus reactive about your future wellbeing!
